description: Manage client access, access links, and guided onboarding per matter.

**What is this?** Under **Client portal** in the staff app, you manage which clients can use the separate [client portal](/guides/portal) for each matter. You only see active matters you may update. The server checks those permissions again for every action.

## Open a matter

1. Open **Client portal** in the left rail. **Portal administration** shows the **Matter**, **Practice area**, and number of clients with active access.
2. Search by matter name, number, or practice area.
3. Click a matter to manage its client access.

## Give a client access

1. Under **Add new client**, enter the **Name** and **Email address**.
2. Click **Add & show access link**.
3. Basenet gives the client access immediately and shows an **Access link for** that client at the top.
4. Click **Copy** and share the link through an appropriate channel.

The displayed link is single-use and valid for 15 minutes. Afterwards, the client can always request a new login link from the portal with the same email address. The link is shown immediately after creation; copy it before leaving the page.

## Create a new access link

Click **Link** for an active client. Basenet creates a new single-use link and displays it at the top. Use this when the previous link has expired or has already been used.

## Manage client details and access

**Client access** shows each client's **Name**, **Email**, **Status**, and **Actions**.

- **Edit** — change the name or email address and click **Save**.
- **Revoke** — end access to this matter. The client remains listed with status **Revoked**.
- **Restore** — give a revoked client access again.

Revoking access does not remove the client or their history. After restoring access, use **Link** to create a new access link when needed.

## Start guided onboarding

1. Under **Guided onboarding**, click **Start onboarding**.
2. Basenet starts a flow for identity, details, and documents, using the matter's practice area when one is set.
3. Copy the invitation link that appears and share it with the client.

See [Client onboarding](/guides/client-onboarding) for the client-acceptance workflow.
